A healthy natural environment
Kenmare takes an environmentally responsible approach to managing the natural resources that are part of the mining process.
Kenmare works to minimise its environmental footprint and does not use any toxic chemicals in its mining or processing operations. Protection and restoration of biodiversity is a key priority as about two thirds of the 34,000 ha mining concession lies within the Primeiras and Segundas Environmental Protected area (EPA). Kenmare progressively rehabilitates the post-mined land. While Nampula Province is not in a high water-stress region, care is taken with the use of water in mining operations and to ensure the community has the water it needs to sustain livelihoods.
