History
Kenmare Resources plc, a mining and exploration company has been in existence since 1972. The company is a member of the FTSE 250 Index and has a primary listing on the London Stock Exchange and secondary listing on the Irish Stock Exchange. The principal activity of the Group is the operation of the Moma Mine which is located on the north east coast of Mozambique. The Mine contains deposits of heavy minerals which include the titanium minerals ilmenite and rutile, as well as the zirconium silicate mineral, zircon.
Feasibility studies on the Moma Mine were completed in February 2001 which provided a detailed assessment of all aspects of the proposed development and confirmed the technical feasibility and commercial viability of the Mine. The detailed market analysis showed a strong market for the minerals produced. This information allowed Kenmare to approach funding institutions to finance the Mine and then appoint a contractor to carry out the construction of the Mine in August 2004. The Mine is now in operation and producing good quality products for its customers. Kenmare is now in the process of implementing an expansion programme that will increase production levels by 50%.
Kenmare operated the Ancuabe Graphite Mine in Mozambique from 1994 to 1999 and established itself as one of the world's leading producers of high quality natural flake graphite. The mine is currently on care and maintenance and Kenmare is seeking new investors. Kenmare also holds a small number of exploration licences in Ireland.
