Q&A

When did you join Kenmare and which roles have you held during your time with the Company?

I joined Kenmare in May 2023 as a Land Management Superintendent.

What training have you received through your role?

The most important training I’ve received since I started my career at Kenmare is through the Full Role Delivery programme. I’ve improved my leadership skills a lot and I can see the growth of my team.

What has been the best moment during your time working for Kenmare?

My best moment at Kenmare in my first year was exceeding the Company’s 2023 land rehabilitation target. We rehabilitated 187 hectares (ha) of land, 12ha above the target of 175ha, and it was a particularly large achievement given that by the end of October we were only 50% towards the target. During November and December we managed to rehabilitate around 90ha of land, which is a company record. Assisting farmers to improve the quality of the soil in their fields by incorporating slimes has also been rewarding and has improved crop yields, as well as local food security.

Which of KMAD’s community initiatives are you most proud of and why?

I work closely with KMAD and one of the projects I’m most proud of is the seedling production by local community nurseries for the rehabilitation process. We are currently expanding this partnership so that community nurseries are not only part of the seedling production, but also the planting and post-planting care. The local community is the key to the success of restoring mined areas, contributing to the conservation of biodiversity and creating jobs and family livelihoods. There is nothing better than seeing the end-users of the land participating in its recovery.

What is your personal motto?

It’s a simple one: “Focus and commitment”.

“Assisting farmers to improve the quality of the soil in their fields by incorporating slimes has been rewarding and has improved crop yields, as well as local food security.”
