Egg Production

A major initiative in 2007 was the establishment of an egg production project in Mtitikoma. The egg production project was expanded during 2008 with two new chicken houses.

There are now a total of six chicken houses at the egg farm that are producing eggs to supply to the Mine. The six houses have made great progress with steady production levels reaching a point whereby, in addition to supplying the Mine, surplus eggs are sold in the local markets. Business training has been supplied to the farmers by KMAD who now operate independently in terms of sourcing materials and marketing their produce. This project is one of a number of capacity building projects funded by FMO.
