Gilchrist joins Kenmare Resources plc as Chief Operations Officer

Kenmare Resources plc, the Irish and London quoted mining company, is pleased to announce the appointment of Chris Gilchrist as Chief Operations Officer. Work has begun on Kenmare's Moma Titanium Minerals Project in north-eastern Mozambique which will produce 650,000 tonnes of titanium minerals and 60,000 tonnes of zircon annually.

Dr Gilchrist has over 25 years' experience in the mining sector. He joins Kenmare from Cleveland Potash Limited where he was General Manager. He has worked in a number of management and research roles in his career with DeBeers, Gold Fields of South Africa and the South African Chamber of Mines. He holds a BSc in Minerals Engineering and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering and has extensive experience of working in Africa. Dr Gilchrist will be based in Dublin for Kenmare.

"Chris's appointment marks an important advance in Kenmare's preparations for the commencement of production from Moma. We are delighted that he is joining us," said Michael Carvill, Managing Director of Kenmare Resources.
"His extensive experience will help guide the construction of the mine to a successful conclusion and will have an important role in the establishment of an operations team and the efficient operation of the project afterwards. Further, his appointment strengthens the Kenmare team in developing new opportunities for the company."

Titanium minerals are most commonly consumed in the manufacture of white titanium dioxide pigment, which is in turn used in paint, plastics and paper industries. Other applications include titanium metal, which is very light, corrosive resistant and strong, and is used in demanding applications where these properties are valuable such as aircraft. With an improved global economy and increased pigment demand, a deficit of titanium minerals is predicted in the coming years. Additionally the tight market for zircon is putting significant upward pressure on pricing. First production is expected from Moma in the second half of 2006.
